After nearly ten years since our unsuccessful attempt to bring
community radio to Geneva, New York and the surrounding Finger Lakes
region, I am pleased to say that Geneva Community Radio is Back, and
poised to be better than ever.
On February 7th, 2024, Geneva
Community Projects, an established non-profit 501(c)3 charitable
organization, received a Construction Permit from the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) to build a new low power FM (LPFM) radio
station to serve Geneva at 104.1 FM with the call letters WGCC "We're
Geneva's Community Connection".
We now have a second opportunity
to bring a unique non-profit and non-commercial radio service to our
community. A radio service that will enhance, enrich and strengthen our
community, and one that will bring diverse elements of our community
closer together.
This new station will offer a diverse mix of
music and spoken word programming, appealing to a wide range of tastes
and interests within the Geneva community. Local residents will be
encouraged to become volunteer DJs and show hosts, expressing themselves
in a unique and creative manner for their friends and neighbors to hear
and enjoy. The station will offer programming that gives a voice to
music and ideas that are not heard on existing local radio stations.
In
the coming months, we will be active in the community as we attempt to
raise the money needed to build this new station. So please bookmark
this site and come back often for further updates.
Yes. Geneva Community Radio is back, and this time, it's here to stay!
